As the previous episode drew to a close, it looked like Arthur was headed to a serious and public fall thanks to an imminent raid on the all-male dance party and his lover Patrick’s role in making sure he’d be there when the police knocked down the door. Instead, Patrick’s conscience attacks him at the last moment, leading him to pull Arthur away, even though it might lead to Patrick’s own humiliation and arrest. Not that Arthur sees it that way. He, perhaps understandably, feels betrayed by Patrick at first, then softens when Patrick confirms that Rev. Henry Grattan is behind the setup. Not that this stops Arthur from cutting Patrick loose with a promise to send his final paycheck in the mail.
