ROBERT MacINTYRE was the target of abuse from American trash talkers as the Scotsman failed to complete a morning whitewash for Europe.

MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland had roared back from three-down after 11 holes to square their match against Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.

But MacIntyre had to pull away from his tee shot at the short 17th when an American fan was heard shouting "you bloody w***er" - a swearword not in common usage on this side of the Atlantic.
