MONTREAL — Quebec provincial police have arrested a 63-year-old woman in the death of a man who was killed in 2000 just months after winning the lottery.

Aline Girardin was arrested Thursday and later charged in Trois-Rivières, Que., with second-degree murder and the desecration of the corpse of Louis Valentine.

A charge sheet alleges Girardin stabbed Valentine to death between Aug. 28-Sept. 4, 2000, and then allegedly cut up, froze and buried his body.

Provincial police say Valentine won a large sum of money in the lottery in December 1999, and moved the following month to Trois-Rivières, where he met a woman.

He was last seen in Montreal’s northern Laval suburb in August 2000 and was reported missing by family about six months later.

The force said forensic specialists were helping
