MICHIGAN, USA — As Michigan lawmakers fix the state’s crumbling roads, many in the marijuana industry said they’re being unfairly targeted to pay for it.

A new roads funding bill would hopefully raise marijuana taxes to bring in hundreds of millions of dollars. Lawmakers said it’s about fixing roads. However, dispensary owners believe it could push buyers back underground.

“I haven't seen one customer that supports it. So no, nobody thinks it's appropriate. Nobody wants to pay 24% more for their cannabis,” said CEO of Michigan’s Cannabis Dispensary Meds Café, Joshua Covert.

He said Michigan’s marijuana industry could soon see its biggest tax hike yet.

“It's going to make people going to the black market or unregulated products, like the hemp market much more attractive,” said Covert
