LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - According to a recent progress report , ONE Lexington says gun violence numbers are trending down.

By September 26, 2024, there were 12 gun related homicides in Lexington.

As of Friday, there have been 15.

But, ONE Lexington statistics show that number is seven fewer deaths than Lexington’s four year average to date.

For ONE Lexington Director Devine Carama, that means the organization’s programs are working.

He tells us the organization’s new strategic plan uses community feedback to address not only gun violence, but what causes it.

“Not just addressing the symptoms but the actual sickness right so really focusing on the root causes of gun violence, which is poverty, food insecurity, economic disparities, stuff like that,” Carama says.
