JERSEYVILLE, Ill. — Jersey Community High School was placed on a precautionary lockdown Friday after police reported seeing a man with a long gun in the community.
Jerseyville Police Department asked the school to initiate a “secure” status, meaning students remained inside the building during the school day and were not permitted to leave for lunch or early dismissal.
School officials say that all students were safe and secured.
“There is no direct threat toward JCHS or our students,” principal T. Leslie wrote to families. “This is precautionary due to a possible threat in the community.”
The Jersey County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed with FOX 2 that the suspected person of interest was taken into custody and the lockdown was lifted.
