Franklin County Sheriff Johnny Crocker has a two-step plan for Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders to be able to build a new prison somewhere in Arkansas: fire Joe Profiri and put Crocker and another elected sheriff on the Board of Corrections.
Do those two things, Crocker said, and “we’ll find you a place” to build a new correctional facility. It just won’t be at the Franklin County site, which Crocker called “an 800-acre farm on a rock pile [with] no water.”
Crocker made his comments Friday morning on KDYN 92.7 in response to a recent report that federal Immigration & Customs Enforcement agents were spotted at the proposed prison site meeting with Profiri, Sanders’ former corrections secretary and current senior advisor on corrections issues .
