YORK COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Hurricane Helene ravaged South Carolina, causing 49 deaths and damaging nearly 5,000 homes.
Queen City News Anchor Robin Kanady sat down with York County Emergency Management Director Chuck Haynes on Friday to talk about the lessons learned from Helene.
One year ago in York County, first responders worked through the winds and rain to pull a tree off a man trapped inside his home.
York County crews had to call in specialty teams and equipment from the Charlotte Fire Department’s Urban Search and Rescue Team to make it happen.
“As Hurricane Helene was hitting us, kind of in the peak of it all, they were out taking a house apart to save a life,” said Haynes.
