LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Subcommittees of Arkansas lawmakers approved a pair of agenda items this week that would create seven new law enforcement roles within the state's Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism.
The Arkansas Legislative Council's personnel subcommittee met on Sept. 24 to consider two items from Kay Barnhill, the director of the Office of Personnel Management, on behalf of the parks department.
The first item called for reinstating a park sergeant role that had been vacant since 2019.
The agenda request describes the role of park sergeant as being "responsible for providing safety at Arkansas State Parks and supervising subordinate officers, as well as ensuring compliance with state laws and park regulations." The salary for the role ranges between $61,000 and
