NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Tennessee Supreme Court announced it will hear appeals in two cases impacting Metro Nashville government.
The Court announced this week justices will decide whether a 2023 state law that scrapped the Nashville Airport Authority and gave much of the appointing powers to the state is constitutional. The Court of Appeals unanimously ruled in April the law was unconstitutional.
The airport authority agrees, arguing the legislation attacks a single entity — but Republican lawmakers told News 2 it's about expanding representation.
"Our predecessors would be rolling over in their graves if they had any idea that the state legislature has reached out and targeted our city,” Andrew Byrd, of the old Nashville Airport Authority, said in 2023.
