Checking the bins: Lexington pushes for smarter recycling habits

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Lexington’s Waste Management Services is working toward a safer and cleaner recycling site.

After 21 years of waking up before the sun and sometimes getting off after sunset, Shadrick Edmonds said he still enjoys giving back to the environment as the operations manager with Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government’s Waste Management.

For the next few weeks, he and a team are checking for items out of place in blue recycling bins across Lexington.

It’s part of the department’s fall contamination reduction audits.

“We appreciate anybody who participates. And a lot of it is because residents don’t know. So we’re trying to inform them as well,” Edmonds said about educating residents on the process.
