IOWA CITY, Iowa — Escucha Mi Voz Iowa, a local immigration advocacy group, held a protest today in Iowa City. The group demanded the return of Jorge Elieser González Ochoa who was apprehended yesterday by Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at the Bread Garden Market.
Jorge's family members spoke at the event, as well as local officials, including Iowa City Mayor Bruce Teague, State Representative Elinor Levin, Johnson County Supervisor Jon Green, and others.
The group criticized ICE for what they describe as a "violent abduction" in a public area, endangering bystanders. They demanded accountability from Iowa's congressional delegation, particularly targeting Representatives Miller-Meeks and Hinson for their perceived silence on the matter.
