STRATFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Sikorsky Aircraft, a Lockheed Martin subsidiary based in Stratford, announced a $10 billion contract with the United States government Friday.
The company has been contracted to build up to 99 CH-53K heavy lift helicopters for the U.S. Marine Corps for $10.86 billion. It is the largest-quantity order for the aircraft to date, according to Sikorsky.
According to Sikorsky, the CH-53K is designed to "meet the Marine Corps’ lift requirements for today’s battlefield — to transport troops, supplies and heavy equipment forces across a contested environment — and survive."
