DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A Valdosta man was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 96 years, for his role in a deadly 2022 shooting at South DeKalb Mall , DeKalb County officials announced on Friday.

James Elderidge Scott, 49, received the sentence from Superior Court Judge Gregory A. Adams after a jury found him guilty of malice murder, felony murder, multiple counts of aggravated assault, weapons offenses, and providing false information to police.

The conviction and sentencing stemmed from a shooting inside a restaurant and bar at the mall on June 10, 2022, where four people were shot and 48-year-old Daletavious McGuire was killed.
