Wild video captured a power line exploding over golf fans in Long Island, New York, on Friday, Sept. 26, on the opening day of the Ryder Cup.
Sparks from the electrical power line and a loud explosion sent some people running from a crowd waiting to enter the Bethpage State Park golf course, also known as Bethpage Black.
The course is located in Farmingdale, about 35 miles east of New York City.
Shot by Nicholas Teigen and shared on X, footage shows a power line near one of the entrances to the course catching fire.
Moments later, the power line explodes, and a loud zap is heard.
“Even the power grid at Bethpage couldn’t handle the Ryder Cup tension. Come on Europe!” Teigen posted in a caption with the video.
It was not immediately known what caused the explosion.
USA TODAY contacted PSEG Long Island on Friday, Sept. 26, but has not received a response.
