Advocates for young transgender patients who received care from UPMC filed paperwork this week to quash a subpoena from the U.S. Department of Justice they say is seeking “deeply personal” information from children’s medical records.

In late July, the DOJ sent more than 20 subpoenas to doctors and medical facilities that have provided gender-affirming care to kids and teens — including UPMC. The department said at the time the DOJ “investigations include health care fraud, false statements, and more.”
