The Idaho Falls Soup Kitchen will celebrate its 40th anniversary on Oct. 16. To commemorate the occasion, the non-profit organization will host a special fundraising dinner in an evening of food, conversation, and live music, according to a Soup Kitchen press release.
The Soup Kitchen started in 1985, beginning as the Christian Sandwich Kitchen — initially run by a group of people serving sandwiches in the basement of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. The same foundational spirit is reflected now in the volunteers who cook and serve hot, nourishing meals to those who might otherwise go hungry. According to the release, the Soup Kitchen offers a safe place for many who otherwise spend their time alone. As a result, many friendships have formed between those eating together in a place where they
