“Saying the quiet part out loud” has become a political cliché over the past eight years, and certainly over the past ten months, as the president has wrecked the institutions of democratic government in pursuit of his private revenge.
On Thursday, Trump signed a memo outlining his plans to use all the power of the federal government to eliminate all political opposition and by extension his political party, the soul of which he has stolen. Author Jeff Sharlet—who has been the loudest canary in the coal mine—has the right of it. He posted an analysis of the memo on Bluesky, and it’s hard to argue with.
