INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- On Tuesday, about four dozen Jackson County schools will be filled with students and voters at the same time. It's election day for the recall of County Executive Frank White.
The special election by voter petition that had to have a special election date litigated in the courts has created an unusual situation for many of the schools.
Most schools have off on Election Day in November, and many calendar committees have also worked to coordinate spring break or other teacher work days around April municipal elections to avoid complications of having children in school during elections.
This election, though, was scheduled long after school calendars for the year were put together.
