RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — Work is almost complete on Blythewood’s new single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Blythewood and Community roads.
The project is part of the $11 million Blythewood Road widening plan, which started in early September and is on schedule to be finished by the end of 2025.
The roundabout is designed to help traffic flow more smoothly, improve safety, and reduce emissions by minimizing the stop-and-go nature of traditional traffic lights.
Residents said the roundabout can be confusing at first. Cecilia Martin, a barista at a nearby plaza, said she’s noticed drivers stopping in the middle of the circle.
"Yeah, a few times when I’ve been on the road, cars would, like, stop," Martin said. "I think they would get confused and just, like, stop in the middle of it
