MANCHESTER, N.H. —
A candidate for Congress is pushing for more transparency over who funds major lawsuits in New Hampshire.
Republican Brian Cole, who is running in New Hampshire's 1st Congressional District, said he hopes his legislation will bring down skyrocketing insurance costs.
One of his priorities, with state and national implications, is called third-party litigation financing.
"It's when somebody has no interest in the lawsuit other than making money," Cole said. "So, it's very predatory, and it's people like hedge funds or foreign entities coming into our system. And they're turning our legal system into a profit-making machine."
