BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A rodeo is coming to Port Allen on Saturday, Sep. 27. The action is expected to be intense, with $8,000 in prize money on the line for contestants.
So, what makes this event any different from the others?
Well, it’s being directed by a 9-year-old.
“Last year I asked her what she wanted for her birthday,” said Walter Hull, CEO of the Southeastern Rodeo Association (SERA). ”It came straight out of her own mouth; she wanted to do her own rodeo.”
Almost a year later, and 9-year-old Kinsley Decuir’s wish is now a reality.
The idea stemmed from her upbringing.
“My mom and my dad used to always do their own rodeos,” said Decuir. ”I wanted to see how fun it would be to do my own rodeo.”
Her mother participated in barrel racing, and her father in roping.
