JONES COUNTY, Ga. — When Jones County High School's homecoming dance sold out, leaving many students without tickets, one mother turned to social media and sparked a community-wide effort to ensure no student missed the milestone event.
Melissa Colon discovered her son Isaac couldn't purchase tickets to the official dance, which was being held in the school cafeteria with limited capacity. After seeing other parents posting similar concerns on Facebook, Colon decided to take action.
"Maybe if I put it out there and the world responds, maybe we can get something done," Colon said.
Her Facebook post quickly generated responses from local businesses willing to help. Within 48 hours, the community had organized a complete alternative celebration.
