LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Derby-winning jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. is now at home recovering following a serious fall at Churchill Downs last weekend.
Hernandez told WAVE that he was released from the hospital on Thursday afternoon.
He was seriously hurt on Sunday, September 21, while he was racing on Sgt Garcia.
Hernandez fell off and was rushed to the hospital with seven broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and a laceration on his liver. He’s had several surgeries to fix internal bleeding and his ribs.
Now, Hernandez will continue to recover at home with hopes of being back in the saddle racing eventually.
