Eight cars of a BNSF train derailed in Carson early Friday, but no injuries were reported.

The derailment was reported about 2:40 a.m. near Alameda Street south of Sepulveda Boulevard, according to BNSF spokeswoman Lena Kent.

There was no threat to public safety, and train operations on the main corridor were not affected as crews worked to complete recovery efforts by late Friday afternoon, Kent said.

BNSF, headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, is one of the largest freight railroad networks in North America, operating thousands of miles of track across the western United States.
