A high streamflow advisory has been issued for North Vancouver and Squamish as a strong storm system dropping rain on Vancouver Island and the North and Central coast is drifting south.

The system, which will reach Squamish and the Lower Mainland areas this evening, is expected to raise river levels rapidly, but no major flooding is expected. There may be minor flooding in low-lying areas, and there is a potential for road washouts and danger to outdoor recreationalists, warns an advisory from the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship.

The precipitation is expected to transition to showers by late Saturday, with the west-facing slopes on Vancouver Island getting as much as 100 millimetres in rain. Another system moving in is expected to add to that total on Sunday and continu
