WATSONTOWN - A section of an interstate highway in central Pennsylvania has reopened after being closed nearly 11 hours when a rig carry stone struck an overpass.

The accident occurred when the elevated dump portion of a westbound tractor-trailer rig hauling 23 tons of stone on Interstate 180 struck the Eighth Street overpass in Northumberland County about 7:40 a.m. Friday, state police said.

The impact caused the stone and debris to spill and cover all four lanes of the divided highway. It also brought down utility wires leaving some in the area without power.

The driver, David Wright of Muncy, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured, troopers said.
