GREENWOOD, S.C. —

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has charged a man in Greenwood County with insurance fraud.

According to the arrest warrant, on Jan. 7, 2025, 27-year-old Ziare Daquan Maurice Butler submitted an altered medical bill totaling $6,891 as a false claim for insurance payment to Progressive.

Investigators said the account number listed on the medical bill returned to another patient and the balance was paid by Medicare on March 16, 2024, which predated the claim.

SLED charged Butler with presenting a false claim for insurance payment and forgery on Friday, Sept. 26.

Butler was booked into the Greenwood County Detention Center. The case will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Department of Insurance.
