BRISTOL, Conn. (WTNH) -- Nearly three years ago, two Bristol police officers were ambushed and killed in the line of duty. Now, the family of Sgt. Alex Hamzy, one of the fallen officers, continues to honor him by giving back to the community.

Every year, many people in the Bristol community memorialize the two officers by lighting up their porches and windows blue on Oct. 12. This year, the Hamzy family is taking another step and raising funds in the process.

Gabby Hamzy is taking part in selling blue lights called luminaries to honor her cousin, Sgt. Hamzy. Each luminary kit comes with a blue LED light inside of a bag with Sgt. Hamzy's name on the outside.

"When it's dark out, these bags will illuminate blue and it shines through his name,” Gabby said.
