MEMPHIS, Tenn. — On what would have been Keierra McNeil’s 38th birthday, her mother stood with prosecutors in Downtown Memphis and publicly challenged investigators’ progress in the 2020 killing of her pregnant daughter.
Tonya Kerr opened the news conference with an emotional plea: “I never thought I would be here on her birthday doing a press conference about her murder."
McNeil was found unresponsive with gunshot wounds in the driver’s seat of a black Mercedes on Aug. 20, 2020, police said. Her boyfriend, Kevin McKinney, the father of her unborn child, was arrested at the time and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, but prosecutors later dropped those charges for lack of evidence. The case remains open.
