Mark Lopez had a play drawn up to get Carlos Gamboa a touchdown for weeks, but he couldn't find an opportunity to run it. That changed on Sept. 26.

With Las Cruces (6-0, 2-0 District 3-6A) up 35-0 over Organ Mountain (2-4, 0-2) in the third quarter, the Bulldawgs' coach sent the defensive tackle in to catch the Knights off guard. Gamboa lined up as an H-back behind the offensive line, and he did what the play commanded by acting like he was a blocker.

But Gamboa sprinted into the flat shortly after the snap, or at least he tried to. It took him a few seconds to shake off a defender, forcing quarterback Gunnar Guardiola to stand frantically in the pocket after faking a handoff.
