When you think of a party, you picture laughter, chatter, and people vibing together, but some people, not shy, not anxious, are there physically, yet they feel emotionally apart. They’re neither introverts nor extroverts, and even “ambivert” doesn’t quite describe them.

Enter otroverts.

The term was coined by New York–based psychiatrist Dr Rami Kaminski, who knows this feeling all too well. In fact, he identifies as one. In an exclusive interview with India Today, he admits, “I have always been a non-belonger." He believes he is someone navigating the world without feeling that he is part of it.

And clearly, he isn’t alone. Thanks to social media, the label is catching on fast, with many people finally finding the word to explain what they’ve always felt.
