The Virgin Valley football team opened the season with first-time starters at virtually every position on the offensive line.

The lone exception: tackle Jayden Healey.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound senior plays both ways for the Bulldogs, seemingly always impacting the game, coach Matt Woods said.

That was the case tonight in the Class 3A opener, when Virgin Valley’s run game was tough to stop in a 46-26 win at Pahrump Valley. It was supposed to be a close game, but Virgin Valley jumped out to a quick three-touchdown lead and never looked back.

“That’s a good team,” Virgin Valley coach Matt Woods said. “We got on them early and that helped.”

Woods doesn’t hesitate calling Healey the best lineman in the 3A. Tonight, he lived up to the billing with at least two sacks and a handful of tackles.
