NEW DELHI: Sonam Wangchuk has been detained under the National Security Act (NSA) and transferred from Leh to Jodhpur Central Jail, more than 1,000 km away from his home in Ladakh.
The arrest comes in the aftermath of violent protests in Leh over demands for statehood and constitutional safeguards for the region.
The protests, which escalated on September 24, turned deadly when police opened fire, resulting in the deaths of at least four people, according to multiple news outlets. Dozens more were injured, with reports citing 50 to 80 people wounded, including several police personnel.
Authorities claim that Wangchuk incited violence through provocative comments during the protests, which they say contributed to the unrest and confrontation. Officials also point to the scale of protests
