A petition urging the Government to not implement digital ID cards has garnered over 1.5 million signatures in just a day. Sir Keir Starmer revealed on Friday that a new mandatory ID system for those employed in the UK would be rolled out by the Government by 2029.
The petition implored the Government to pledge not to introduce digital ID cards, stating: "We think this would be a step towards mass surveillance and digital control, and that no one should be forced to register with a state-controlled ID system."
