BATAVIA — Genesee Community College President Dr. Craig Lamb wondered if he had already made a big mistake his first day on the job.

He had finished a day of meetings and introductions on Aug. 1, 2024, and was sitting on the sidelines that evening, watching a football practice when his phone rang. It was SUNY Chancellor Dr. John B. King Jr.
