Tension gripped the Banda court campus on Saturday when a prisoner suddenly fell ill during his court appearance, forcing police to rush him to the district hospital. The prisoner, facing charges of rape, was later referred to a higher medical centre for advanced treatment.

According to officials, the undertrial prisoner, lodged in Mahoba jail, claimed he had consumed powdered glass mixed with water before being brought for his court hearing. He alleged that he took the extreme step due to continuous harassment inside the jail and the authorities’ failure to act despite repeated complaints.
