MONCKS CORNER — Two former Berkeley County deputies who failed to stop a subordinate’s sexual and physical abuse of women have pleaded guilty.

Christopher Dozier III and Frankie Levar Snider were charged in June 2024 with misconduct in public office after women at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center accused another deputy of sexually assaulting them.

Their subordinate, Avery Richard Smith, pleaded guilty in March to four counts of first-degree assault and battery, five counts of third-degree assault and battery, and two counts of misconduct in office. Smith’s actions became public after a woman in the jail reported that Smith groped her when she refused to have sex with him after he isolated her in a room.
