The co-founder of a Pittsburgh nonprofit who helped defend author Salman Rushdie from an attacker in New York in 2022 has been officially recognized for his heroism.
The Carnegie Hero Fund Commission honored 73-year-old Henry Reese, one of 18 people throughout the U.S. recognized recently for their “extraordinary heroism.”
The Pittsburgh-based commission honors those who enter extreme danger while trying to save the lives of others.
Patrick Haskin, 30, of Mayville, N.Y., also was honored for his role in stopping the attack on Mr. Rushdie.
Hadi Matar, of Fairview, N.J., who was 24 at the time, was charged with attempted murder. Matar was later found guilty and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
