Mumbai: Mumbai Police arrested a man from West Bengal for allegedly making extortion calls and sending threatening videos to comedian Kapil Sharma and his PA.

The accused, 45-year-old Dilip Choudhary, was apprehended by Crime Branch officials on the charge of issuing threats in the name of gangsters Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar and demanding Rs 1 crore from the comedian-actor. ADVERTISEMENT

Kapil received seven phone calls from the accused, Hindustan Times reported quoting police officials.

Choudhary has been sent to police custody till September 30.

Police are trying to ascertain whether the accused actually has any direct or indirect link with the notorious gangsters or used their names to instil fear and extort money.
