A stampede broke out at actor-turned-politician Vijay’s rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, leaving 29 people dead, including several children, and injuring over 30 others, Tamil Nadu Health Minister M.A. Subramanian confirmed.

The incident occurred as a large crowd gathered to hear Vijay, chief of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). The number of attendees had swelled to such an extent that the situation became chaotic, making it difficult for people to breathe.

Several people and party activists began to faint, forcing Vijay to interrupt his speech. The actor appealed to the crowd to remain calm and urged his party workers to assist the injured and ensure they were taken to ambulances.

Authorities are assessing the situation and providing medical aid to the victims.
