Denmark has seen a rise in drone activity at military sites, including its largest air force base. This increase comes amid a series of incidents that have heightened security concerns in the country. On Saturday, Denmark's military reported that drones were spotted at multiple defense facilities the previous night. The military stated, "Several capabilities were deployed," but did not provide further details.
This week, large professional drones have disrupted air traffic at Danish airports, leading police to elevate alert levels to their highest point in a decade. Authorities have not yet determined who is responsible for these incidents. However, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has suggested a connection to Russia's attempts to destabilize Europe. Russia has denied any involvement in the situation in Denmark.
Late Friday, one or two drones were seen at Karup airport, which is adjacent to a secured military base. Police spokesman Simon Skelkjaer noted that the drones breached the airspace of the fenced-off area. Fortunately, the drones did not interfere with commercial air traffic, as the civilian operations at Karup airport are limited.
Karup is Denmark's largest military installation, employing around 3,500 personnel. It serves as the air force's flight academy and is the storage site for the country's military helicopters. Additionally, it contains parts of the Danish Defence Command.
