Scottish Labour has confirmed that Lothians MSP, Foysol Choudhury, MBE, has been placed under administrative suspension.

This status will continue pending investigation of what has been described as an “allegation of inappropriate conduct”, and the MSP will sit as an Independent.

A Labour Party spokesperson said: “The Labour Party takes all complaints seriously.

“They are fully investigated in line with our rules and procedures, and any appropriate action is taken.”

Mr Choudhury was elected as a regional MSP at the last election and was chosen the Labour Party’s candidate for the newly drawn constituency of Edinburgh Northern last month.

He is Chair of the Edinburgh and Lothians Regional Equality Council and was the first MSP of Bangladeshi origin to be elected to The Scottish Parliam
