A new survey shows West Australians have rejected Roger Cook’s claim that shops are open long enough, instead showing strong support for extended trading, especially on Sundays.

The survey of 982 households, commissioned by Chamber of Commerce and Industry of WA last month, has reignited calls for longer shopping hours in Perth, with 57 per cent in favour.

Support was greater (65 per cent) when it came to Sundays. Sunday trading is currently limited to 11am to 5pm.

CCIWA Chief Economist Aaron Morey said there was no disputing WA backed expanding Sunday trading.

“Perth is the only city in Australia where you see people queuing outside a supermarket at 10.50am on a Sunday morning, waiting for the doors to open,” Mr Morey said.
