The wildfire burning on southwest Oregon’s Rogue River exploded on Sept. 26, growing to 12,650 acres in one of the world’s most popular river corridors and bringing new evacuations.
The Moon Complex more than doubled in size as dry winds and dry fuels caused the blaze to run down the river corridor in an area east of Gold Beach and west of Grants Pass.
New level 3 (“go now”) and level 2 (“be set”) evacuations were ordered by the Curry County Sheriff’s Office for the river communities of Illahe and Agness. See evacuation map at tinyurl.com/zfxke7wm
The river was closed to all recreation on Sept. 25 and boaters in the canyon were evacuated during the week, ahead of the expected dangerous conditions.
