Several people including children, are feared dead at Vijay's Karur rally on Saturday following a stampede-like situation. Several people in the audience fainted and had to be taken away in ambulances.

The rally saw massive turnout and the chaos unfolded as heat and overcrowding led to distress among the gathering.

PM Narendra Modi called the incident unfortunate and prayed for swift recovery to all those injured.

"The unfortunate incident during a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones. Wishing strength to them in this difficult time. Praying for a swift recovery to all those injured," he said in a post on X.
