A massive stampede at Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay’s campaign rally on Saturday left at least 36 people dead, including women and children, and dozens more injured.

The rally, held at a venue with a capacity of 10,000, saw an overwhelming turnout of nearly 50,000 supporters, triggering panic and collapse within the crowd.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay was forced to halt his speech as fainting spells and crowd surges escalated. He appealed for calm and urged supporters to clear paths for ambulances. A nine-year-old girl went missing during the chaos, prompting a public plea from Vijay and further panic among attendees.
