STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — The mayor of Stone Mountain has filed a petition challenging a vote from city council members to remove her from office.
In August, the City Council voted to begin the formal process for the removal of Mayor Beverly Jones.
According to city council members, Jones violated her oath by taking control of the city's bank accounts without approval earlier this year. However, no funds were reported stolen. The council is now seeking to subpoena Truist Bank for more information about the mayor's actions.
Jones addressed the allegations and claimed she was told by the bank that there was a cybersecurity issue and she needed to remove former employees from the account. She admitted to removing the employees from that account.
In September, Jones challenged the city coun
