Dearborn — California Congressman Ro Khanna pushed for the recognition of a Palestinian state and advocated for the First Amendment at a conference in Dearborn Saturday.

Khanna, a progressive Democrat, was interviewed by political commentator Cenk Uygur at Arab Con, the national convention of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee.

Khanna and 47 other members of Congress sent a letter Friday to President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio urging the U.S. to officially recognize a Palestinian state, his office said in a press release. Uygur said Khanna "took the lead" on the letter. The congressman said he should have more Democrats on the letter than 47.
