New Delhi, Sep 27: India has strongly condemned Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's remarks at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), labelling them as "absurd theatrics" and accusing him of glorifying terrorism. During the 80th session of the UNGA, Indian diplomat Petal Gahlot responded to Sharif's claims, stating that terrorism is "central to their (Pakistan's) foreign policy."
Sharif had claimed that Pakistan faced "unprovoked aggression" from India during Operation Sindoor and praised his armed forces for their response. In her rebuttal, Gahlot asserted, "No degree of drama and no level of lies can conceal the facts," highlighting Pakistan's history of supporting terrorism. She pointed out that Pakistan had previously shielded a terror outfit, 'The Resistance Front', from accountability for attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.
Gahlot also reminded the assembly that Pakistan had harboured Osama bin Laden for years while pretending to combat terrorism. She dismissed Sharif's claims of victory in recent conflicts, stating, "If destroyed runways and burnt-out hangars look like victory, as the Prime Minister claimed, Pakistan is welcome to enjoy it."
In response to Sharif's call for dialogue, Gahlot stated, "If he is indeed sincere, the pathway is clear. Pakistan must immediately shut down all terrorist camps and hand over to us the terrorists wanted in India." She reiterated India's stance that any issues with Pakistan should be resolved bilaterally, rejecting any third-party mediation.
Gahlot concluded by emphasising India's commitment to zero tolerance for terrorism, stating, "Nor will we allow terrorism to be practised under the cover of nuclear blackmail. India will never bow to such threats." This exchange at the UNGA underscores the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly regarding issues of terrorism and regional security.
